why is calligraphy so “expensive?”

Calligraphy is an art form that has been around for a long time and it comes in many styles. It is all about putting beautiful, unique strokes together to create each letter, each word. You see it on stationery, home decor, phone cases, apparel and more. So why do we charge the way we do?

In a nutshell, the cost of custom calligraphy includes: time, effort and skill; communication between the calligrapher and client, additional materials, supplies, tools, packaging, shipping, any travel required and other costs of doing business (the list can go on and on!). Calligraphy can also take a toll on a calligrapher’s body (sitting down for hours doing a project can cause fatigue and lack of sleep, etc). Writing out just one word can take up to a minute or more to create. Just imagine how long it would take to write in calligraphy a phrase for a custom framed wall art print, a wedding vows page for the groom and bride or for hand engraving or lettering 100 perfume bottles for customers at a live event for a department store or brand. Woh!

I hope this answers that question. But if you are still not convinced, you can check out my social media here and here for some video footage (yes, I sped up the videos 10x, but if I did it in real time, it would take forever and you would click away. LOL). If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out: here.
